Fairview Health Services Laboratory Care Technician in Princeton, Minnesota

Overview

The Acute Care Laboratory at M Health Fairview Northland Medical Center (https://www.mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-northland-medical-center) in Princeton, MN is looking to fill one (1) Casual (rotating weekend and holiday) Laboratory Care Technician (LCT) position. This position is non-benefit eligible, working 8-hour evening shifts and offers backup for overnight shifts. This LCT will provide patient care while working evening shifts every 5th weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 12:30pm to 9:00pm, and occasional weekday day, evening and overnight shifts. Overnight shifts are from 8:00pm to 6:00am. Evening shifts are from 12:30pm to 9:00pm. Day shifts vary between 7:00am, 7:30am and 8:00am start times. Training for this position will be full–time Monday–Friday for at least four (4) weeks.

Responsibilities Job Description

Working with diverse populations within a healthcare environment, the LCT plays a meaningful role in providing quality, proficient and professional services in keeping with Fairview Values as they interact with our patients, families and co-workers. The LCT performs laboratory specimen collection, as well as, provides for safe and secure specimen handling and point of care testing. Responsible for accurately entering orders and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems; monitoring computer logs for incomplete work; scheduling tests/procedures and providing results in LIS/HIS and over the phone, the LCT's attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation for our providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual or team member, the LCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving Fairview's goals.

Following established guidelines to obtain specimens and perform procedures, prioritizing work to achieve optimal patient outcomes, information Processing, maintaining a safe work environment, demonstrating ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Qualifications

Required

  • At least 18 years of age

Education

  • Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program OR-

  • Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience OR-

  • Enrollment in final year of MLT or MLS program.

Experience

  • Successful customer service background within a diverse cultural setting

Preferred

  • Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity
